KCCA FC continued their impressive surge in the Uganda Premier League with a commanding 3–0 victory over Lugazi FC at Lugazi FC Stadium, securing their fifth consecutive win both in the league and Uganda Cup, closing the gap on the title race.
Mayanja starred for the visitors, scoring once and providing an assist, while Ivan Ahimbisibwe added the second before Lugazi defender Paul Wasswa turned the ball into his own net to seal the win.
KCCA took the lead in the 19th minute when Mayanja tapped in after Lugazi goalkeeper Allan Batali fumbled a powerful shot from Herbert Achai. The visitors doubled their advantage early in the second half as Mayanja set up Ahimbisibwe, who finished clinically to score his 11th league goal of the season and strengthen his position as the division’s top scorer.
KCCA extended the lead when Ahimbisibwe’s pressure forced Wasswa into an own goal, while new signing Kennedy Muserero nearly added a fourth late on but his effort went narrowly wide.
The victory moves KCCA to 45 points in third place, just two behind leaders Vipers SC, who host Calvary FC later tonight.
Lugazi remain winless in four league matches and sit 12th with 18 points, three above the relegation zone. Both teams return to action on March 17 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, with Lugazi facing NEC FC and KCCA taking on Onduparaka FC.
