Joshua Cheptegei wins maiden medal on road

Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei won the Vendata Delhi Half Marathon on Sunday 20th October 2024 in the Indian Capital of Delhi.

This is Cheptegei’s first ever medal on the road after he announced that this year’s Paris Olympics was the last we saw of him on track.

“This win in Delhi was special to me because it is my first-ever victory in a half marathon.” Cheptegei echoed

“India has been important for my career and this country now means a lot to me.” he added

“I felt good throughout the race despite the slow start.” – Cheptegei concluded

The world and Olympic champion across 10,000m bagged gold with a time 59:46, behind him were two Kenyans Alex Matata and Nicholas Kipkorir who took silver and bronze respectively.

Besides a neck wrapped in gold, Cheptegei also returns home with a 27,000USD (98 million shillings) prize money package.
