Former Baby Victoria Pearls captain Jimia Mohammed Abdallah has joined Soroti City Cricket Club ahead of the Women’s T20 2025, adding firepower to the defending champions as they chase a third consecutive title.

A standout wicketkeeper-batter known for her aggressive style, Jimia was named Best Wicketkeeper during last year’s Girls Schools Cricket Week in Soroti and captained Uganda’s U-19 side at the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Kigali.

Previously with Olila Cricket Club, Jimia helped her team reach the 2024 final, where they narrowly lost to Soroti City.

Her switch is one of several high-profile moves, with all-rounder Racheal Achan, Ruth Akello, and Christine Anayo also joining Soroti City and this will create room for rising talent in the Olila Cricket Club team.

Their reinforced squad will debut against Pioneer Cricket Club this Saturday at Lugogo.

Pioneer CC, mostly made up of Masaka Secondary School players and coached by Yusuf Nanga, will be looking to cause an early upset.

Soroti City, backed by the Soroti Cricket Academy, bring a blend of experience and homegrown talent under the leadership of coach Carol Mbabazi.

The Women’s T20 2025 begins with four matches on opening day, following a double-header format.

Ten teams are split into two groups:

  • Group A: Soroti City CC, Pioneer CC, Wanderers CC, Tornado, Tornado Bees

  • Group B: Olila CC, Mukono Development CC, Jinja Association of Cricket Clubs (JACC), Jinja SS, Africa Cricket Club (ACC)

In Group A, Wanderers face Tornado at Entebbe Oval.

Wanderers, powered by stars like Naome Kayondo and Baby Cricket Cranes’ Irene Mutoni and Gilingish Nabulime dominated Tornado last season.

Tornado, led by coach Shama Mukaya and composed largely of Ndejje SS students, aim for a better showing in 2025.

Olila faces JACC at GM sugar Oval in Group B. After a narrow 2024 final loss, Olila is determined to reclaim the top spot.

JACC, featuring talents like Kevin Awino and Immaculate Nakisuyi, seek to prove their credentials against one of the tournament’s strongest sides.

Mukono Development (formerly Mukono Community CC) meets ACC at Florida Oval in their first top-tier clash.

Both clubs, built around school-based talent, mark the tournament’s growing grassroots-to-elite pipeline.

With new talent, old rivalries, and bold ambitions, the 2025 season promises thrilling cricket from the first ball.
