Called “Bambi” by his peers, FC Bayern München’s Jamal Musiala is focused on improving his speed and agility even more to help his team win as many titles as possible. Musiala also talks about how he views the Supercup and the start of the season.
What are your goals for the new season?
“Yes, for me personally, to get a little more playing time, keep working on myself. As a team, we want to win the Bundesliga, the Champions League, score lots of goals. We want to win as many titles as possible and
I think we have a great team that can do that.”
How do you describe yourself?
“I dribble in tight spaces to get out of tight situations. Dribble and be an offensive threat. That is what I try and aim for.”
How do you stay cool?
“I just play as freely as possible. I don’t really think too much and have as much fun as possible without stressing myself.”
What drives you?
“For me, it is just being around all these amazing young players. It is an honour already. Of course, I want to win all of these trophies as well, but I am not really too focused on that right now. For me, it is important to take another step going forward into the next season. All these awards will come in the future, but I am not really looking for that at the moment.”
What are the goals for the World Cup?
“Of course, I think every player wants to win the World Cup. I think we want to go into the world cup with the best feeling possible. Win lots of games and go into the World Cup with a lot of confidence and I think everyone is looking forward to it.”

Are you still called Bambi?
“I got that nickname quite early on in my career and I think Leroy Sané started calling met hat. I like it. It doesn’t really bother me or anything. I think it’s kind of nice.” 1
How do you keep improving?
“There is a lot of work that we do at Bayern. I think every player works on different stuff. I don’t think I need a lot of upper body strength that might slow me down so I would work on more explosive stuff that will keep me quick and agile like you said. There are always specific programmes for each player and each position.”
Do you like Formula 1?
“I just got into Formula 1 recently because we had time off and I was in England. We went to Silverstone to watch the race. I am not the biggest fan I would say. If you ask me a lot of questions, I wouldn’t know a lot about, but I am starting to get into it. The person I have followed the longest is probably Hamilton. I think he is an amazing driver and probably my favourite one to watch.”
Can you imagine driving in Formula 1 yourself one day?
“I don’t think that’s the sport for me.”
