Jacob Kiplimo: Ugandan misses out on gold in Spain

Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo narrowly missed out on gold at the San Silvestre Vallecana 10K, edged by Berihu Aregawi who also set the record for the fasted 10k time on the roads.

The Ethiopian finished second behind another Ugandan, Joshua Cheptegei at the Paris Olympics.

The 2024 San Silvestre Vallecana is an annual 10k road race held every new Year’s even in the Spanish capital of Madrid and this this was it’s 60th anniversary, attracting over 40,000 participants.

Three Ugandans have won this race before, Kiplimo himself in 2018 and in 2022 Jacob Kiplimo and Prisca Chesang won the men and women’s race respectively.

Kiplimo had a tiny lead heading into the stadium and its final turns but Aregawi had an edge over him at the home stretch
