0

Iteen Soccer Academy is located in Ntinda Kigoowa, Kampala district a few meters away from Kisaasi City Center.

The academy is under the Iteen International non-profit organization which was founded in 2014 by a businessman and sports lover Wasswa Jimmy who had an idea he picked up from YWCA-YMCA, a non-governmental development organization that brings youths together in Mombasa.

The Academy was started on 30th August 2019 and after just one year, they have moved incredible strides from having 20 kids to now 50 children in three under age groups (U10, U13, and U15).

They have participated in numerous tournaments around Uganda, winning some of them, and also finishing as runner-ups in many others.

The academy currently uses Ntinda’s East High School soccer field and Fast Fusion Sport as their training grounds.

This immense development has provided a pathway to the ‘Ghetto Kids’ around the Kampala area and also lured some partners on board such as Ruth’s Kitchen and Sharma Medical Clinic.

Objectives

Iteen Soccer Academy aims at providing a platform to nurture raw talent in the ghetto slums of Kampala, using football to create a change in society, and produce upright children that can represent the country in the future.

Positives

The Academy has unleashed raw talent to the world and this has helped to support many youths in acquiring education through bursaries which has helped them advance their studies.

For instance, Basaja Nsubi Kagimu joined St. Julian SS, Gayaza because of his football skills.

Iteen Soccer Academy organizes the Iteen Soccer tournament at East High School that brings together over 500 kids in the area and many children have gotten opportunities from this tournament.

Challenges

Like many others in Uganda, Iteen Soccer Academy faces a problem of Inadequate training facilities and equipment that range from the cones, training kits, balls, and boots due to numbers that increase each day.

Lack of coordination and cooperation from the Parents of the youth which leads to poor turn-up hence hindering the smooth running of the academy activities and projects.

Furthermore, they also face a problem of inadequate funds. While Academy relies much on internally organized funding, there are limitations especially with the day to day running of their projects.

Targets.

Iteen Soccer Academy wants to be the best academy in Uganda that can produce national-based players on a regular basis

According to the academy’s administrator Jimmy Waiswa, who likes to dream big, they want to start up a team that can participate in the top tier league in the next 2-3 years.

“Our target is to set up a football team in the next few years which will be used as a platform to offer the chance to our kids who fail to find teams elsewhere after they have left our Academy,” said Waiswa.
