Ishmail Wainright gets long-awaited NBA debut


Uganda power forward Ishmail Wainright has gotten his long-awaited NBA debut.

This is after he featured for one minute for Phoenix Suns in their 112-104 victory over Dallas Maverick in a game played at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday night.

Since signing a two-way deal with the Sun on October 21st after being waived by Toronto Raptors, the power forward had not received any minutes on the court in an NBA game.

Wainright is a naturalized Ugandan who was born in Kansas City. He featured for the Silverbacks at the 2021 FIBA AfroBasket in Kigali and averaged 12.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists as Uganda finished sixth.

With the win against Mavericks, Phoenix Suns has won all straight games in the NBA, having last lost against Sacremento Kings on October 28th.

The 11 staight win is the longest Phoenix Suns streak since the 2006-07 season.

With 12-3, Suns sit second on the Western Conferences log, behind Golden State Warriors(14-2).
