Hosts Uganda Crested Cranes won their first game of 2022 CECAFA Women Championship against Rwanda at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
In what was the second game of the day, the Crested Cranes looked stronger than Rwanda in all ascepts later on getting rewarded before the end of the first half with Fazila Ikwaput putting the hosts in the lead after Shamirah Nalugya receiving a defense splitting ball from Asia Nakibuka to slide in the lady Doves star.
In the second stanza, the striker doubled the lead three minutes after the restart from a Hassifa Nassuna chip over the goalkeeper. On the course of the game, it looked like she would score a hatrick but it didn’t come off like she wanted.
Substitute Nabweteme also came in and put up an impressive show with her one-two touch movements to disorganize the Rwanda defense. She was also involved in the second goal.
The game ended 2-0 and it takes the Crested Cranes to second place on the Log in group A since the first group game between Burundi and Djibouti ended 3-0 in favor of Burundi keeping them top on goal difference.
The action will continue on Thursday with two fixtures in Group B with Tanzania set to play South Sudan while Ethiopia will take on Zanzibar.
