Cricket Cranes won by 76 runs
The Uganda Cricket Cranes continued their dominant run in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League B with an emphatic 76-run victory over hosts Hong Kong, China, at the Kowloon Cricket Club on Thursday.
This win reinforced Uganda’s lead in the standings and marked their third triumph, over Hong Kong in the tournament.
Coming off a rain-affected match against Italy that resulted in shared points, Uganda entered the contest with 14 points, two ahead of Hong Kong and Italy.
A victory was crucial to extending their advantage, and the Cranes delivered in style.
After being put in to bat, Uganda’s opening duo, Robinson Obuya (25 off 42) and Shrideep Mangela (16 off 45), provided a steady start.
However, it was a commanding 100-run partnership between Raghav Dhawan (52 off 77) and all-rounder Alpesh Ramjani (68 off 63) that solidified Uganda’s innings.
Captain Riazat Ali Shah further bolstered the total with a blistering 40 off just 25 balls, propelling Uganda to 276 – the highest score in the second round of the tournament.
Dhawan’s half-century was his third in as many matches, highlighting his consistent form. Ramjani, who was later named Player of the Match, excelled in both batting and bowling, proving instrumental in Uganda’s success.
Defending their impressive total, Uganda’s bowling unit showcased remarkable discipline and aggression.
Ramjani led the charge, claiming four crucial wickets, including key batters Martin Coetzee, Anshuman Rath, and Nizakhat Khan.
His four-wicket haul marked a significant milestone in his List A career.
Supporting him, Juma Miyaji and Cosmas Kyewuta picked up two wickets each, while Dinesh Nakrani and Henry Ssenyondo chipped in with one apiece.
Their collective effort dismantled Hong Kong’s batting lineup, securing a comprehensive win for the Cranes.
With this triumph, Uganda now sits top of the table with 16 points, four ahead of Hong Kong and second-placed Italy, who still have a game in hand.
Uganda will look to maintain their unbeaten streak when they face Tanzania in their final match on Saturday before heading into the third round in Tanzania.
