Kampala International Future Series shuttled off on Thursday morning at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Inside the Arena is where we met Uganda Female Badminton National team player, Husina Kobugabe who we assumed would be in action on Friday as one of top seeded players.
To our surprise, it was the opposite as we got learn of her absenture on court in this four (4) day tournament.
In our little chat with her as we exited the Arena, Kobugabe stated the Uganda is so rich in players and we are going to have a look at them play in this tournament;
“We have a lot of players that have come to play the Kampala International Future Series but unfortunately am not among.” She stated
She was a statement that prompted us to ask why? And she replied;
“This is due to a few reasons, we were supposed to have a training program organized by the Uganda Badminton Association outside of the Country but some issues came up” she added
“Still back home we couldn’t make it to the draw because it was already too late, I feel bad that am not going to be playing in my own country because it’s an advantage, it helps you accumulate more points and learn something new”
“But i will be around to support and cheer my friends and teammates” Kobugabe concluded
Talking to the CEO of the Uganda Badminton Association, Simon Mugabi he confirmed the situation and added by saying;
“Yes Husina, and her top seeded teammates were previously taken to training camps in France that why you see they almost qualified as you know Europe, you can play tournaments in the nearby countries so we wanted them to go back and train there” Mugabi confirmed
However Mugabi added and said; ” Our tournament has started today (Thursday 26th September) and will end on Sunday”
“Today has been a qualifiers day but the heat will be turned up more because most of the top seeded players will be in action and games will be played for a little longer” he concluded.
