Record Gomba Ssaza FC champions have unveiled a new management committee to steer the team in the upcoming Buganda Masaza Football Cup as they target a sixth title.

The appointments were announced by Gomba Ssaza Kitunzi Fred Williams Mugabi, who named a 10-member organizing committee during a meeting at the county headquarters.

Dan Mwesigye has been appointed team patron while Jane Namatovu takes over as chairperson, becoming the first female chairperson in the history of the Gomba football team.

“I am humbled to serve Gomba Ssaza football team as the chairperson. I thank the Kitunzi and I am ready to work hand in hand with the team members to deliver the best results for Gomba in the upcoming season,” Namatovu said after her appointment.

Namatovu will work with Peter Wasswa as first vice chairperson and Swaibu Luzinda as assistant chairperson.

Former media officer Resty Namugema Mbatudde has been promoted to team manager, replacing Jafari Kalule. Other committee members include Derrick Luliibe Nsubuga (General Secretary), Wilber Tebusweke (Treasurer), Ibrahim Bbosa (Public Relations Officer) and Steven Yamulemye (Safety and Security Officer).

Gomba are the most successful team in the Masaza Cup with five titles won in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2020.

The Lions will be aiming for a strong comeback after a disappointing 2025 campaign in which they finished fourth in the Bulange group with nine points and failed to progress past the group stage.

The 2026 Masaza Cup is scheduled to kick off on June 13, with defending champions Buweekula Ssaza hosting the opening match.
