In a gripping encounter at Philip Omondi Stadium, Kampala Queens Football successfully beat Wakiso Hills Women Football Club in the FUFA women super league, reaffirming their commitment to defending the coveted trophy on a cold Sunday morning.
The game commenced with a swift opening goal by Captain Zainah Namuleme in the second minute, setting the stage for what seemed like a goal-rich performance by the hosts.
Despite the early advantage, Rashida Nankya orchestrated an equalizer for the visiting team, keeping the score level at one-all as the first half concluded.
After the restart, spectators witnessed strategic substitutions, with Teddy Najjuma and Elizabeth Nakigozi joining the fray.
Nakigozi, playing as an inverted winger, narrowly missed a clear-cut goal in the 50th minute.
However Hasifa Nassuna assumed the captain’s role, her subsequent substitution left Kampala Queens grappling in the midfield, creating an opportunity for Wakiso to press forward.
In a tense moment, Daisy Nakaziro, the goalkeeper for Kampala Queens, showcased sheer individual brilliance, sending a long ball forward, Zainah Nandede maneuvered past the Wakiso Hills defense, scoring a spectacular goal in the 82nd minute and restoring Kampala Queens’ lead.
This victory positions Kampala Queens just two points behind the league leaders, Kawempe Muslim, who currently holds the top spot with 21 points.
With a game in hand, the Queens stand at 19 points, keeping them firmly in the title race.
Kawempe Muslim’s recent triumph against Uganda Martyrs, with goals from Jolly Kobusinge, Hadijah Babirye, and Agnes Nabukenya, maintains their position at the summit, with Nabukenya leading as the top scorer with 6 goals.
In the other game, Naigaga Kamiyat starred, soring a hat trick to help bottom side Asubo Gafford win 4-2 against hosts Makerere University.
