Vipers Sports Club head coach Fred Kajoba has stepped down from his role at the club just after 16 months in charge at the Kitende based club.
This comes after he informed his bosses on Monday evening after the team’s training session at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
“I have resigned from the Vipers job,” Kajoba confirmed to Kawowo Sports, an online sports publication in Uganda.
He says he took the decision after the Vipers Technical Director Charles Masembe told him to choose between Vipers and the Uganda Cranes.
“When I returned from the Uganda Cranes training on Monday morning, Charles Masembe (Vipers’ Technical Director) asked me to choose between the club (Vipers) and the national team and I made the decision to stay with Uganda Cranes,” he said.
The former Simba and Bright Stars tactician joined the Venoms last year in January, replacing Edward Golola and helped the team win the 2019-20 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title.
He has managed 40 games in all competitions, winning 23 games, drawing 10 and losing the rest.
Kajoba leaves the club third on the log with 56 points, two behind leaders Express and into the quarterfinal of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
Despite unconfirmed reports indicating that former KCCA FC tactician Mike Mutebi or Livingstone Mbabazi could replace Kajoba at the club, It remains unclear who will be in charge when Vipers takes on SC Villa in the second leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Wednesday.
