Uganda Dance Sport Federation (UDSF) will hold the 2nd Annual Capacity Building Camp from January 10th-14th, 2024 at Nyakasura School in Fort Portal.
Fort Portal a city of tourism City which has the Tooro Kingdom will host the annual under the theme ‘Dance Green, Protect the environment’.
This will aim at promoting the talent development and environmental protection with the DanceSport athletes taking the center stage with the commitment of the federation raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection.
Speaking to the media on Monday the UDSF general secretary Barnabas Ssebuyungo highlighted the importance of environmental protection.
“As a federation, our aim is to increase the number of well trained coaches, judges, Deejays and media so as to help grow and promote the sport in different parts of the country.”
“This is the second edition of the capacity building Camp but it’s under the theme ‘Dance Green, Protect Environment’ which is aimed at educating the students on environmental protection.”
“We are all aware that the drums we use to provide sound in DanceSport come from tree and animal skins so we are targeting to protect the environment which sustains our sport and in doing so we are going to plant upto 1000 trees during our camp at Nyakasura School.”
The camp is open to all public dance practitioners, especially school holiday makers and candidate students on school vacation.
There will be Afro, Breaking, Latin & Standard, and Hip Pop Crew Battles, as well as dance workshops that teach essential skills such as judging, coaching, MCing, DJing, and sports journalism to children and youth.
All participants at the second DanceSport capacity building camp will be graced with a tour in the Rwenzori region which will include mountain climbing at Rwenzori Mountains and visiting the Mabere ga nyinamwiru site.
Participants will be charged a fee of 100,000 UGX for students and 150,000 for teachers for the five-day adventure which will include dance, learning, and environmental awareness.
