Group D Results.

  • Tunisia 0-1 Australia
  • France 2-1 Denmark

Tunisia who played out a goalless draw against Denmark in their first game lost 1-0 to Australia in their second at the 2022 World Cup Group D game on Saturday.

Australia’s only goal was scored in the opening half by Mitchel Duke after heading home a Craig Godwin deflected shot only to go on and win it at the end. This was their first win at the tournament after they lost their first.

Harry Souttar was the man on fire throughout the game against Tunisia winning all his tackles, ground duels, with fifty touches, six clearances and three blocks a performance that is rare to find in a world cup game.

Despite Australia’s win, defender Mohamed Drager believes the Carthage Eagles were unlucky not to have drawn or even won the game.

It was a good start [against Australia ] I think with a bit more luck we could have scored,” he told the media.

We could have won this game. But also the last 10-15 minutes of the first half, they put a lot of pressure. Might also concede one goal, but at the end of the day I think we were up to the task.”

Tunisia have played in five World Cups but have never gone past the group stage and this may continue this way.

What do they need to change this?

They need to win their next game against France the remaining results work in their favor something that will push them to four points.

At the moment, Group D is led by France, the only team that has qualified to the next stage with 6 points, followed by Australia on 3 points then Tunisia and Denmark come in 3rd and 4th respectively.
