Paul Put made a losing start to his tenure as Uganda Cranes Head Coach on Friday evening when his side conceded a late goal to lose to Guinnea in Morocco.
Uganda, who were playing as hosts succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at Stade Du Municipal in Burkane.
With the scores tied at 1-all, Seydouba Cisse put in his free-kick past Salim Jamal Magoola to break the hearts of the resilient Cranes.
Earlier in the game, Ali Camara put Guinea ahead in the 10th minute before Fahad Bayo equalized for the Cranes with a lethal finish.
Put will hope to pick up his first victory when Cranes take on Somalia on Tuesday at the same venue. Somalia lost 3-1 to Algeria in their opening game on Thursday in Algiers.
Apart from Algeria, Uganda, Somalia and Guinea, the other group G sides are Botswana and Mozambique.
In the six-team group, the top finisher will qualify for World Cup 2026 in Canada and USA.
