FIFA World Cup 2022: Time up for Senegal

Morocco are currently the only hope of Africa as the continent’s champions, Senegal have been eliminated at the FIFA World Cup round of 16 stage on Sunday.

The Lions of Teranga were eliminated by the Three Lions of England after they lost 3-0 at the Al Bayt stadium – Al Kohr, Qatar.

England’s first goal was scored by Jordan Henderson in the opening half after a wonderful low cross from exciting talent, Jude Bellingham. But before all, this Senegal through Papa Sarr had a shot on goal that was saved by Jordan Pickford.

Phil Foden who got his second start at the world stage did not disappoint as he netted the second for the three Lions before the climax of the first half through another assist from Bellingham.

In the second half, Senegal came back trailing 2-0 but still didn’t do enough to fight back hence Bukayo Saka also coming to the party with a close range chip over goal keeper Edouard Mendy after a good low ball into the box from Foden.

England will face France in the quarter finals of the World Cup on Saturday. The defending champions armed with the tournament’s most potent player, Kylian Mbappe ( at least he is for now) and will come to kill off the tie in their pursuit of a second straight World Cup title.

For England they will continue to look to their youngsters, most especially-the teenager from Birmingham with some skin in that game, Jude Bellingham who has been a revelation for this England side.

From the African perspective, we remain to look at Morocco who are going to play Spain at the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
