FIBA U18 Afrobasket: Junior Silverbacks fall short of Quaterfinal spot as Junior Gazelles advance

Uganda National U18 Basketball team, Junior Silverbacks lost their third consecutive game in against Nigeria on Tuesday afternoon .

This was their last group game in the FIBA U18 Afrobsket championship taking place in Pretoria, SouthAfrica until 14th September.

A 73:61 loss at full time brought an end to the junior silverbacks disappointing campaign following losses to Angola and Egypt in the opening group B games.

They now bow out of the tournament and miss out on a change to qualify for next year’s FIBA U19 World Cup to be played in Switzerland.

Against Nigeria, Uganda had a false start with a 15 point deficit but the team came back stronger and managed to outscore Nigeria in the second half.

However the game was already out of thier hands. Mukisa Musiru Nkugwa had a steller individual performance posting 17point, along with Bright Galiwango who scored 16 these two were Uganda’s top scoreres while Nigeria’s Azeez Olaitan Sulaimon was the games leading scorer with 23 points.

On the ladies side, the junior gazelles advanced to the quarter finals after two wins and one loss that guaranteed a second placed finish in group C topped by Egypt.

They will play against Tunisia on Wednesday in the quarter finals.
