Wakiso Giants FC could be on the verge of ceasing operations after a series of emotional statements from both the club and its president, Musa Atagenda, sparked fears that the Purple Sharks’ journey has come to an end.

The uncertainty follows the club’s relegation from the FUFA Big League, a setback that leaves the once high-flying side facing an uncertain future.

On Saturday, Wakiso Giants posted a farewell message on social media that many interpreted as more than just a reaction to relegation.

“Some journeys are measured by the distance covered, others by the lessons carried. Since 2018, the road has been long, the storms many, and the silence often louder than the cheers. Every chapter eventually finds its final page. Till we never meet again.”

The message quickly caught the attention of fans and football stakeholders, with many questioning whether the club was preparing to close its doors after eight years in existence.

Those fears were heightened when club president Musa Atagenda shared his own thoughts on social media.

“I gave everything. Time, money, energy and belief. Sadly, football has a way of punishing those who genuinely invest in it. Some decisions are painful, but necessary. The biggest mistake is expecting fairness in a system that feeds on your passion and gives nothing back.”

Atagenda’s statement appeared to reflect years of frustration despite the enormous investment he has made in the club since its formation in 2018.

Under his leadership, Wakiso Giants became one of the most talked-about clubs in Uganda. After earning promotion to the Uganda Premier League in 2019, the Purple Sharks established themselves as a fan favorite, attracting large crowds and building a strong identity both on and off the pitch.

However, the club’s fortunes have steadily declined in recent years. Relegation from the Uganda Premier League was followed by another difficult spell in the FUFA Big League, culminating in a second successive drop that now threatens the club’s existence.

While neither the club nor Atagenda has officially confirmed that Wakiso Giants will be dissolved, the tone of the recent statements has left many supporters fearing the worst.

If the club does fold, it would mark the end of a football project that brought excitement, color and ambition to the Ugandan game, leaving behind memories of a remarkable rise and a painful fall.
