Diaspora: Ochaya assists as Kakeeto and Opondo return – how Ugandan professionals fared over the weekend


It’s yet another day that comes after an action-packed weekend where we get to find out how Ugandan players abroad fared with their respective clubs.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya was introduced at the brink of halftime as his Konyaspor side suffered a 1-0 loss to Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

In Estonia, Edrisa Lubega never made the matchday squad as Paide Linnameskond were trashed 7-1 by Flora in the Estonian Meistriliiga championship.

In Sweden, both Isaak Ssewankambo and Ronald Mukiibi featured full-time for Ostersunds FK who suffered a 4-0 home loss to Göteborg in the Allsvenskan.

Mukisa Kenneth Mbayo never made the matchday squad for Team TG FF who were thrashed 5-1 by Sollentuna in the Swedish Division 1.

In Scotland, Bevis Mugabi started and featured full-time for his side, Motherwell who squarded a goal lead to fall 2-1 to St. Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup.

In Denmark, Robert Kakeeto returned from injury and was introduced in 86th minute as his AaB Aalborg side and Midtjylland played out to a goalless draw in the Danish Super Ligue.

Still in the Danish Super Ligue, Moses Opondo was introduced in the 22nd minute as his side, Odense Boldkub were 2-1 losers against Randers.

In England, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru was still out with an injury as his side, Wycombe Wanderers played out to a 1-all draw with Derby County in the English Championship.

Jordan Obita started and played featured for 73 minutes as his Oxford FC conceded two goals in the last 10 minutes to lose 2-1 to Swindon City in the English league one.

Elvis Bwomono featured full-time as Southend FC lost 3-0 to Bolton Wanderers in the English league two.

In Portugal, Alex Kakuba was an unused substitute as his Cova de Paidade played out to a goalless draw with Feirense in the Portuguese LigaPro.

In Israel, Fahad Bayo started and featured for 71 minutes while Timothy Awanyi played full-time as their Ashdod SC suffered a 1-0 loss to Bnei Sakhnin in the Israel Premier league.

Still in the Israel Premier League, Luwagga Kizito started as a striker and feature for 90 minutes as his Hapoel Kfar Saba suffered a 3-0 loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

In South Africa, Denis Onyango started in goal as Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a 3-0 win over Stellenbosch in the DStv Premiership.

Moses Waiswa Ndondhi was an unused substitute for Supersports United FC as they claimed a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United.

In Congo, Joseph Benson Ochaya finally started and provided an assist to Jo El Beya  as TP Mazembe claimed a 2-0 win over Groupe Bazano in the Vodacom Linafoot.

In Tanzania, Boban Zirintusa is still  out with an injury, so, he missed Mtibwa Sugar’s goalless draw with Mbeya City in the Tanzanian Premier league.

In the Czech Republic second division, Isaac Muleme played full time as his Zizkov side lost lost 2-0 at home to Dukla Prague.

Lawrence Nduga was introduced in the second half as his Orapa United beat Rwanda’s AS Kigali 2-1 at home in the CAF Confederation Cup.

In the CAF Champions League, Goalie Jamal Salim was an unused substitute Al Hilal Omdurman claimed a 1-0 away win against Vipers SC in the CAF champions league premiliary round.

Still in CAF champions league, Mathias Kigonya started in goal and played full-time as Forest Rangers played out to a goalless draw at home with Bouenguidi Sports.
