Diaspora: Ikwaput nets brace as league action resumes after international break


Men leagues across the globe resumed via the weekend after a few weeks off due to the international break.

Alot of Ugandan foreign-based players were in action and some got ample playing time while others remained unused on the benches.

One exception was Fazila Ikwaput who found the back of the net twice for her Cyprus women side.

This is our edition of how Ugandan professionals abroad fared over the weekend for their respective sides.

Starting off in Scotland, Sadat Anaku made his full debut and played 75 minutes for Dundee United as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

While Bevis Mugabi didn’t play any minute for Motherwell United as they lost 2-1 to Celtics.

In England, Jordan Obita featured fulltime for Wycombe Wanderers as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the English League One.

In Denmark, Moses Opondo featured fulltime for AC Horsens as they lost 2-1 to Silikeborg in Danish SuperLiga.

In Sweden, Alexis Bbaka was absent from Umea’s Matchday squad as they lost 3-1 to Sandviken in the Swedish Division 1.

In Turkey, Farouk Miya featured for 45 minutes for Rizespor FC as they secured a 2-0 victory over Bodrumspor in the Turkish TFF First League.

In the Turkish Sùper Lig, Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru featured for three minutes for Konyaspor Kulubu as they secured a 1-0 victory over Umraniye.

In Czech Republic, Isaac Muleme featured for Viktoria Zizkov as they secured a vital 1-0 victory over Mlada Boleslav B in the Czech Republic National Football League.

In USA, Steven Sserwadda remained unused on New York Red Bulls’ bench as they lost 2-1 to Columbus in Major League Soccer.

In the United States League, Mike Azira was unused substitute for New Mexico United as they drew goalless with Las Vegas Lights

Still in USL, Edward Kizza played only 11 minutes for Pittsburgh Riverhounds as they lost 1-0 to San Antonio.

In Israel, Timothy Awany featured fulltime for Ashdod SC as they drew 1-all with Hapoel Hadera in the Israeli Premier League.

In German, Herbert Bockhorn played only 17 minutes for 1.FC Magdeburg as they secured a 1-0 victory over Jahn Regensburg in 2.Bundesliga.

Melvyn Lorezen made his debut for Wormatia and was yellow carded as his side lost 1-0 to Hoffenheim II German Regionalliga.

In Vietnam, Joseph Mpande and Moses Oloya featured for Hai Phong as they drew 1-all with Hoang in the Vietnam League 1.

In Cyprus, Fazila Ikwaput netted twice for Omonia Women FC as they demolished Geroskipou Ladies 6-0 in Cyprus first division league.

Juliet Nalukenge was an unused substitute for Apollon Ladies as they defeated Aris Lammasol 5-2 in First Division.

In South Africa, Dennis Onyango remained unused on the Mamelodi Sundowns bench as they drew goalless with Orlando Pirates in the MTN8.

In Tanzania, Joseph Ssemuju featured for Mbeya City as they drew 2-2 in Mtibwa Sugar.

In Zambia, Alfred Leku and Keziron Kizito started for Zesco United as they drew goalless with Power Dynamos in the Zambian Premier League.
