Denis Onyango: goalie helps Sundowns claim Nedbank Cup, complete treble

Denis Onyango Nedbank Cup

Cranes goalkeeper and captain Denis Masinde Onyango has helped Mamelodi Sundowns win the Nedbank Cup.

The goalkeeper returned in goal as the Sundowns defeated Bloemfontein Celtics 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

Gaston Sirino’s 80th-minute goal was enough to secure the Brazilians their Fifth Nedbank Cup and a treble of trophies in the 2019-20 Season.

Bloemfontein Celtics had a chance to level matters in the 87th minute but Onyango’s heroics in goal didn’t allow Andile Fikizolo to find the back of the net.

Celtic: Chaine, Letlabika, Mahashe, Chabalala (Masuku 90’), Ngobeni, Baloyi (Sera 90+2’), Phalane, Fikizolo, Mabena (Potsane 61’), Luthuli (Maema 61’), Letsoalo

Sundowns: Onyango, Ngcongca, Madisha, Nascimento, Lakay (Morena 90+4’), Mkhulise (Makgalwa 87’), Kekana, Coetzee, Zwane (Mkhuma 87’), Maboe, Sirino
