The Uganda Men’s National Football Team, The Cranes will be targeting maximum points when they host the Harambe Stars of Kenya in order to enlighten their hopes of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Uganda sits second in Group E with 8 points, just two below Mali who are top with only two games to go. They need to win both their last two games to secure that slot to the next stage of World Cup qualification.
But the rivalry between Uganda and Kenya has not seen a winner in the last four encounters, with all the four ending in draws.
Kenya of the two was the last to win a competitive game, 2-0 in the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
Uganda will also be hoping for a different fortune from what happened in 2011 when they were frustrated by the Harambe Stars and denied a chance to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, following a goalless draw at Namboole. This left Cranes faithful heartbroken as they had failed to break the jinx.
Approaching tomorrow’s encounter at the St. Mary’s Stadium, the game presents the same situation as the Harambe stars have nothing to lose following two losses in the two encounters against leaders Mali.
Ahead of the game, Uganda Cranes coach, Micho says his team is ready for the “party spoilers” who are playing for pride.
“We need to take every match as it is and we are now focusing on the game against Kenya,” Said Micho in the press conference at the FUFA House, Mengo.
“They will play for pride and are ready to spoil the party like they have done before against the Cranes. We are preparing ourselves in the best way possible. We only ask for support from every stakeholder.” added the former Kipolopolo coach.
After the game against Kenya, Uganda will fly to Guinea to take on Mali on Sunday, 14th November. Mali takes on Rwanda also on Thursday at the Stade Nyamiryambo, Kigali.
