Joshua Chetegei has won Uganda another gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the men’s 5ooom.
Cheptegei who is also a world record holder timed his kick to perfection to leave the field in his wake to clock 12:58.15.
Cheptegei fended off competition from Canada’s Mohamed Katir and the united States’ Paul Chelimo who clocked 12:58.61) and 12:59.05 to finish second and third respectively.
Jacob Kiplimo finished in the fifth position while the other Ugandan in the event Oscar Chelimo came last, posting a time of 13:44.45.
Cheptegei’s medal adds a second gold medal to Uganda’s list after earning another from Peruth Chemutai, who claimed the 3000m steeple-chase event. He had earlier won Uganda a silver medal in the men’s 10,000m event just a position ahead of counterpart and teammate Jacob Kiplimo.
