Uganda National team head coach Jonathan McKinstry has revealed that team captain Halid Lwaliwa will be available to play for the Cranes in their second game against Togo’s Sparrowhawks.
Halid Lwalilwa who missed Uganda’s opener against Rwanda which ended in a barren draw on Monday will be returning after recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out leaving Mckinstry with the option to start Paul Patrick Mbowa and Musitafa Mujuzi in central defence.
The 24-year-old defender missed the clash against Rwanda owing to injury, with coach McKinstry opting to start Paul Patrick Mbowa and Musitafa Mujjuzi, who captained the team.
McKinstry confirmed that the Vipers defender suffered a hamstring injury during training and they did not want to rush him.
“Halid [Lwaliwa] missed out through a small injury. He had a little strain on his hamstring a couple of days before the match.”
“It was a small thing but we did not want to rush him. The decision we arrived at with the medical team together with the player was he misses the first game and be ready for the remaining games.”
“We are hopeful in the upcoming games he will be ready. We are speaking to the doctors and he will be taking part in today’s [Wednesday] training session.”
Uganda faces Togo in their second group A game on Friday and will be hoping for a better result if they are to progress to the quarterfinals.
Defending champions Morocco are topping the group with three points after their 1-0 win over Togo on Monday, while Uganda and Rwanda are level on points in the second position.
