CAFCL: Vipers put one leg in second round preliminary game

Uganda Premier League reigning champions Vipers Sports Club started their journey to the CAF Champions League group stages by winning the first leg of their first preliminary round game against Real Olympic de Bangui on Saturday evening.

The Venoms put three past their opponents on the day courtesy of goals from two debutant in
Abdu Lumala, Isa Mubiru and youngster Najib Yiga at the Stade, Alphonse Massamba Debat in Congo Brazzaville in the presence of Club director Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa.

The game that started four hours late with suggestions that it should be postponed due to visa complications reports something that was opposed by the visitors of Uganda saying that they have already booked flights back home after the game

Therefore the home team was pushed into stating the game with eight players.

Into the game;

Vipers started with,

Alfred Macumu Mudekereza (GK), Ashraf Mandela, Murushid Juuko, Livingstone Mulondo, Isa Mubiru, Siraje Sentamu, Marvin Joseph Youngman, Najib Yiga, Milton Karisa, Bright Anukani, Cromwell Rwothomio

New recruit electric man Abdu Lumala, was the first name to get onto the scoresheet in the added time of the first half just 21 minutes after replacing fellow new signing Joseph Marvin Youngman who left the field injuried.

In the second half, the youngster who impressed last season Yiga Najib doubled the lead ten minutes later just before another summer signing Isa Mubiru put the icing on the cake only to finish the game 3-0 away from home.

After the game an excited Abdu Lumala had a few words to say about his Vipers SC debut and promised to offer more;

 It was good. [It was a] good start there is nothing much to say other than that and it was a 3-0 win for the team. Good start.

With one leg in the second preliminary round, the Venoms will play host to the return leg next Saturday at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

If they go past Olympic de Bangui, in the second preliminary round game they will play African giants,TP Mazembe.
