Nothing could separate Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club and Al Masry at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round.

The two sides played out to a goalless stalemate on Saturday evening.

The visitors, Al Masry enjoyed much of the possession in the opening half of the game while URA took the closing half.

The Egyptian Giants hit the woodwork twice in  first 45 minutes of the game with the first hit coming in the 14th minutes after a foul on Amamchi Luuji by Najib Fesali. Amr Ramathan stepped up and hit the low bottom post.

They also rattled the crossbar again in the 24th minute through Farid Shawky Ali ‘s strike from outside the box following a cornerkick.

Aside from those two efforts, the Egyptian giants had a couple of half chances in the first stanza as Islam Ahmed, Austin Amutu and Mohammed Anttar all missed the target narrowly.

The Tax Collectors only realistic attempt fell to Fesali but he failed to connect with a Saidi Kyeyune’s cornerkick.

The game went into the break with the scores tied goalless.

The visitors started the closing half like they did in the first and came close to taking the lead just after the break but Islam Ahmed headed out a brilliant Ahmed Kenawi’s cross from the left.

From then on, the home side started to dominate some of the game’s proceedings but lacked that finishing touch upfront to turn the few chances they fashioned into goals.

David Ssali missed a glorious chance in the 65th minute as he failed to capitalize on a goalkeeping error by Abdul Wahab Masoud. Ssali put the ball agnozingly wide with masoud racing back to the line.

While Joachim Ojera had his shot easily saved by Masoud.

Having started with only four substitutes on bench, URA head coach Sam Timbe made his first change with 15 minutes to go, bringing on Mikdad Ssenyonga for dilapidated Ssali.

In the later exchanges of the game, URA pushed hard for a winner but Al Masry was so solid at the back to allow any mistake.

The two sides will meet again in less than 10 days for the second leg in Egypt
