The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has overturned FIFA’s five year ban on Ahmad Ahmad and granted him a return to his CAF presidential role and as well retained his FIFA status as Vice President.
In November 2020, Ahmad Ahmad was handed a five year ban from all football related activities by the football governing body FIFA after being found guilty of breaching its code of ethics during his time as CAF president.
Ahmad appealed the ban in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) and according to a preliminary ruling on Friday 29th January, the Malagasy was granted a return to office as he awaits a final ruling on the March 2nd, just ten days to the CAF presidential elections.
This is good news to Ahmad Ahmad who had a big number of Football Federation presidents in Africa behind him before the ban but he remains ineligible to contest for the CAF presidency until he proves himself not guilty on the 2nd of March.
The CAF presidential race so far has four confirmed contestants who include; Patrice Motsepe from South Africa, Ahmed Yahya from Ivory Coast, Augustin Senghor from Senegal and Jacques Anouma of Mauritania.
