Vincent Byamukama stamped his authority on the greens at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club, winning the 2025 Absa Pro-Am Tournament of the Uganda Golf Open. He was joined at the top by fellow professionals Tatenda Nyamukondiwa and Silver Opio, as the day’s best golfers shared UGX 10 million in prize money—an increase from last year’s UGX 8 million.

Beyond the prize purse, the competition carried added significance as the top 10 golfers secured qualification slots for the 2026 Magical Kenya Open Pro-Am, one of the region’s premier tournaments. Absa Bank Uganda will fully sponsor five amateurs and five professionals (pending qualification), with any unclaimed professional slots passed on to the next best-ranked amateurs.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, David Wandera, Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to sports development.

“We believe in the power of sports to unite communities and inspire individuals. By investing in events like this, we aim to encourage healthy competition and provide a platform for talent to thrive,” Wandera said.

Now in its seventh year of sponsorship, the Absa Pro-Am remains a highlight of the Uganda Golf Open calendar. For professionals, it serves as a warm-up for the main Professionals Open, while amateurs relish the chance to compete in a high-pressure environment alongside experienced golfers.

This year, Absa invested UGX 300 million in the Uganda Golf Open, covering professional prize money and the costs of sending Uganda’s representatives to the Magical Kenya Open. Since the partnership began, 53 amateur golfers have competed in the Kenyan showcase, gaining invaluable exposure against DP World Tour professionals.

In addition to the Pro-Am, Absa has backed other major tournaments such as the Captain’s Bell, underscoring its long-term commitment to building a stronger golfing ecosystem in Uganda.
