St. John’s managed 91/6 in 20 overs

Result: Mwiri won by 25 runs

An afternoon at Nyakasura main ground, the UCA-Sky View Boys’ Schools Cricket Week 2025, Busoga College, Mwirietched their name deeper into Ugandan schools cricket history, defeating St. John’s High School, Kauga by 25 runs to claim their 20th national title — a milestone achievement made even sweeter by an unbeaten run throughout the tournament.

Having won the toss, St. John’s—who had successfully chased in the semifinals against hosts Nyakasura—opted to bowl first, hoping to replicate their earlier success.

Mwiri, however, came prepared. Despite early setbacks, including the quick fall of top-order batters, their middle order stood tall.

Skipper Gerald Olipa led by example having been set to bat at number four with a steady 34 off 30, and alongside Daniel Muhumuza (20) and Doka Abdulshakur (22),* guided Mwirito a fighting total of 116/9 in 19.5 overs.

St. John’s bowler Jackson Asiku shone with an excellent 4-wicket haul, but Mwiri’s batting depth ensured they crossed the 100-run mark—vital in a high-pressure final.

Chasing 117, St. John’s started with intent but lost Asikuearly.

Their innings was marred by slow scoring and steady Mwiri pressure.

When captain Robert Owili was dismissed for 21, Mwiri tightened the noose.

Despite a valiant 27* from Ali Balidawa, the St. John’s innings never truly took off, closing at 91/6 after 20 overs.

Mwiri’s bowlers, led by Joel Okoth (2/13) and Ryan Agaba(3/25), delivered under pressure with disciplined, intelligent spells.

As the final wicket fell and cheers erupted, Mwiri not only lifted the trophy—they celebrated a perfect tournament run, winning every match they played.

More importantly, they marked their 20th championship title, reinforcing their legacy as the most successful school in the competition’s history.

For Busoga College, Mwiri, this was more than a win—it was a statement: they remain the undisputed kings of Ugandan schools cricket.
