Hussein Lukyamuzi marked Masaka SS’s opening game at the 2026 SkyView Boys Schools Cricket Week with a Player of the Match performance, taking three wickets for just two runs to help his side beat GoodHeart SS by 14 runs.
Masaka posted 86 for nine in 16 overs before restricting GoodHeart to 72 for seven in 17 overs in their Group B opener.
Lukyamuzi, a student at Masaka SS, was pleased with his contribution and the team’s start.
“I’m a student of Masaka SS. I managed to get three wickets and they only conceded me two runs.”
He also explained how he claimed one of his wickets.

“I bowled the first ball in the stumps and the second ball I bowled it on the offside. Then he hit it up and they caught him.”
The award meant a lot to the young bowler, but his focus remains on helping Masaka go further in the tournament.
“I’m very happy to be named Player of the Match and I’m going to work harder so that my team goes higher.”
Masaka’s batting was led by Kasulo Eria, who scored 38 off 40 balls, including four boundaries. Mugenyi Marius added 11, while Moya Edrine and Hassan Kizito scored nine each. Masaka also benefited from seven extras.
GoodHeart struggled to build a sustained chase despite an unbeaten 27 from Mugaya Akiram, who hit three boundaries in his 31 balls. Cedo James made 13 and Musene Xavier eight, while Mutagaya Fechail scored seven. Kaidgwa Ashiraf added six before being run out.
GoodHeart finished 14 runs short, giving Masaka an important opening win as they target the knockout stages.
Masaka qualified for the championship as South Western regional champions after beating Ntare School in the regional final. They will now look to build on their opening victory as the tournament continues.
The 2026 SkyView Boys Schools Cricket Week started Sunday in Fort Portal, with 20 teams competing for places in the knockout stages.
The opening day produced several strong performances and a major upset as Soroti SS beat four-time champions Jinja SS by six runs. Soroti defended 79 after bowling Jinja out for 73, with Daniel Ecweru taking four wickets.
Soroti later completed a double by beating Uganda Martyrs College, Ssonde by 38 runs, with James Oboi scoring 40 and Pauline Ongoru taking four wickets.
Nyakasura School beat St. Cornelius by eight wickets after bowling them out for 48. Philemon Rwothomio took four wickets and scored 26 off 19 balls.
Debutants Lango College also enjoyed a perfect opening day. They beat Kasese SS by 112 runs after Emmanuel Ogwang scored an unbeaten 54 and took three wickets. Lango then defeated Olila HS by five wickets to claim two wins from two matches.
Kira College Butiki beat Shree International by 66 runs, while Shree Sahajanand School Uganda defeated Rwenzori HS by 10 wickets after bowling them out for 55.
At Canon Apolo, St. John’s HS, Kauga beat Ndejje SS by 101 runs, with Baby Cricket Cranes U19 all-rounder Jackson Asiku scoring 69 off 40 balls and taking three wickets.
Gulu HS also opened with a 73-run win over Shree International, while St. James SS defeated GoodHeart by 59 runs, with Shabir Ullah scoring 61 off 48 balls.
