Kitara FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa has declared that his side’s full attention is now on the Stanbic Uganda Cup as the Royals prepare for a crucial semi-final second leg showdown against Vipers SC on Friday evening at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The two sides head into the decisive encounter level after a goalless draw in the first leg in Hoima, leaving everything to play for in the return fixture.
Despite Kitara’s recent struggles in the league, Bbosa believes the Uganda Cup presents the perfect opportunity for his players to revive their season.
“We have not been at our best recently in the league, but our focus is now fully on the Stanbic Uganda Cup,” Bbosa said ahead of the clash.
“It will not be an easy game at their fortress, but we are boosted by the return of our first-choice goalkeeper and are ready to give our absolute best.”
The veteran tactician also made it clear that the Royals are targeting nothing short of a place in the final.
“Our target is clear — to reach the final and win it,” he added.
Kitara will, however, come up against one of the competition’s most experienced and successful sides. Vipers SC are the reigning Uganda Cup holders after defeating KCCA FC 2-0 in last year’s final at Kadiba Stadium.
The Venoms have lifted the trophy four times overall, triumphing in 2016, 2020, 2023 and 2025, underlining their pedigree in knockout football.
Kitara, though, will take encouragement from their own recent success in the competition, having won the Uganda Cup in 2024.
Friday’s encounter also carries memories of heartbreak for the Royals, who were eliminated by Vipers SC at the same stage and venue last season.
The stakes remain delicately balanced heading into the clash. Victory for either side guarantees progression to the final, while another goalless draw would force penalties. Any scoring draw, however, would see Kitara FC advance on the away goals rule.
