The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has received a major consignment of cricket equipment from its long-time partners, Bankstown District Cricket Club (BDCC) of New South Wales, Australia—further strengthening a relationship that has stood the test of time.
This latest shipment includes an impressive range of gear: a turf roller, wicket covers, t-shirts, balls, bats, pads, gloves, thigh and abdominal guards, helmets, and coaching literature.
The equipment will be distributed across UCA’s grassroots and development programs, giving players, coaches, and officials nationwide the tools they need to grow the game.
The enduring partnership between Uganda and Bankstown began in 2005, born out of Uganda’s maiden appearance at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Dhaka the previous year.
It was there that Ugandan team members connected with Brian Freedman, then Team Manager of Australia’s U-19 side and a senior cricket administrator with Cricket New South Wales and Cricket Australia.
That chance encounter sowed the seeds for what has become a vibrant and impactful alliance.
Over the past two decades, Bankstown has consistently supported Uganda through donations of equipment and shared technical knowledge.
This newest consignment marks yet another milestone in a collaboration that continues to yield benefits for Ugandan cricket.
UCA Chairman Jackson Kavuma, a key figure in the shipment’s successful delivery, expressed his gratitude.
“This donation is a reminder of how far we’ve come and what strong, lasting partnerships can achieve,”
Kavuma said.
“We are deeply thankful to Bankstown District CC for walking this journey with us for 20 years and counting. Special thanks go to Bankstown Chairman John Murray, who personally donated a roller.
The impact of this latest shipment will be felt not just this season, but in shaping the game’s future.”
UCA CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa, who oversaw the operational side of the consignment, echoed the chairman’s appreciation.
“The equipment will not only enhance the grassroots playing experience but also provide valuable training opportunities to a wide range of stakeholders.
We are truly grateful to Bankstown for their continued commitment to the growth of cricket in Uganda,”
she said.
The consignment’s delivery was made possible through careful coordination with BDCC Honorary Secretary Martin Klumpp, highlighting the deep trust and teamwork that define the partnership.
As UCA continues its mission to develop cricket through strategic alliances and community-focused initiatives, support from international friends like Bankstown remains invaluable.
With every bat, ball, and helmet shipped, the future of cricket in Uganda grows brighter.
