It was a day to remember for several Manchester United fans at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole as they got to watch their goalkeeper Andre Onana play for Cameroon on Tuesday 10th September 2024.
This game, Cameroon played out a goalless draw with home side Zimbabwe in their Africa Cup Of Nations 2025 Qualifier.
Starting Line ups
It all started a day before when the Cameroon bus arrived at the Stadium arrived for training on Monday morning to train but were unfortunately denied since Cameroon came late and it was a Uganda Cranes Match-day.
However his fans were already waiting to watch Onana live even outside the Stadium.
On Tuesday during his exit for the Match-day preparation with teammates from Sheraton Hotel where he was residing, Onana was shown love by a couple of young footballers and had a photo moment.
With huge anticipation and desire, a number of fans got to Namboole so early to see their stars like Bryan Mbeumo, Frank Zambo Anguissa, Khama Billiat and Tanadwa Chirewa but with Manchester United fans focus on Onana.
Into the game, Onana managed to send the Ugandan fans on a roar in the second half when he punched an on target shot by Zimbabwe’s Khama Billiat.
However after the game, Onana who had recognized the Ugandan fans love for him managed to stay back to reward different lucky fans with two(2) pair of gloves and his boots.
Andre Onana was however driven away in a white premio straight to the Airport from the Stadium after the game and he didn’t travel with the team bus.
In the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Cameroon who are stationed in Group J currently lay second with Kenya leading on four points just like the West African side.
Fans will once again have a chance to watch Onana when Kenya host Cameroon at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole next month(October).
