Kevin Amuge, Sarah Tino, and Teddy Oyella are set to make their debut for Uganda’s Victoria Pearls as the highly anticipated Kwibuka Women’s T20i tournament kicks off tomorrow.
Though the defending champions won’t be playing on opening day, they are already in Kigali, ready to defend their title and aim for a fourth championship.
Kevin Amuge is an emerging fast bowler known for her energy, pace, and skill.
A key figure in Uganda’s cricketing future, Amuge played a pivotal role in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in 2022, helping Uganda finish unbeaten in the group stages.
She notably took four wickets in a match against Botswana, further cementing her reputation as a rising star.
Amuge is a product of Soroti Cricket Academy and hails from a cricketing family.
Her sister, Racheal Achan, has represented Uganda’s U-19 women’s team, while her brother, Musa Eremu, is an umpire and works with the Soroti Cricket Academy.
Her sister Joyce Mary Apio has also played for the Victoria Pearls.
With such a strong cricketing lineage, Amuge’s selection for the national team comes as no surprise.
A former student at Olila High School, she was named Best Bowler at the Girls Schools Cricket Week in 2022, helping Olila secure three national trophies.
Amuge’s pace and precision make her a key addition to the squad as Uganda seeks to defend its title.
Teddy Oyella is an all-rounder for Tornado Bee Cricket Club and a standout performer in domestic cricket.
Her consistency with both bat and ball earned her the MVP award of the UCA Women’s Domestic League in 2024.
Oyella’s cricket journey began at East Kololo Primary School, and she later played for Charity Cricket Club.
A former student at Masaka Secondary School, Oyella in 2024, she was nominated for Domestic Cricketer of the Year (Female) and won the award, further solidifying her importance to Uganda’s senior squad
. As she makes her debut in the Kwibuka Tournament, Oyella brings a wealth of experience and an all-round game that will be crucial for Uganda’s success.
Sarah Tino is a promising young all-rounder, recognized for her excellent fielding and bowling abilities.
At the recently concluded Girls Schools Cricket Week, Tino was named Best Bowler and Best Fielder, showcasing her all-around skills.
A product of Soroti Cricket Academy, Tino started playing cricket at the mini cricket level at Soroti Islamic Primary School and is now a student at Light Secondary School.
Her skills as a bowler, particularly in tight situations, make her an important addition to the Victoria Pearls.
With her international debut at the Kwibuka Tournament, Tino has the opportunity to prove herself on the global stage and continue to grow as a key player for Uganda.
Uganda, ranked 17th in the ICC Women’s T20I standings, will kick off their tournament against Cameroon on June 4, aiming to not only defend their title but also build momentum for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers in Namibia and today they had a training session
The squad features a blend of experience and fresh talent, including seasoned players such as Esther Iloku, Ritah Musamali, and Proscovia Alako alongside several newcomers.
Due to academic commitments, some student-athletes were unavailable and have been replaced in the lineup.
Uganda aims to play fearless, attacking cricket, with Coach Muhumuza describing the tournament as a crucial milestone in the team’s ongoing development.
The Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament, which began in 2014 as a bilateral series between Uganda and Rwanda, has grown into a major regional competition.
This year’s edition features nine teams, including Nigeria, Zimbabwe Emerging, and Rwanda, and aims to foster peace, healing, and unity through cricket.
The tournament follows a round-robin format, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals.
The final match will determine the All Glory Champion.

Tournament Format
The 2025 edition will be played in a single round-robin format, with all nine teams facing each other once.
At the end of the league stage, the top four teams will advance to the semifinals, and the two winners from there will clash in the grand final to determine the All Glory Champion.
