Forward Alpha Thierry Ssali has completed his highly anticipated move to National Enterprise Corporation Football Club (NEC FC), marking a significant chapter in his young career.
The 21-year-old, who initially honed his skills at the Proline FC Academy in Lugogo, has returned to the area where his football journey began, this time donning the colors of NEC FC.
The club confirmed his signing from Express FC on Sunday, signaling the beginning of a new adventure for the promising forward.
A Return to Lugogo: From Proline Academy to NEC FC
Alpha Thierry’s return to Lugogo feels like a full-circle moment. He first emerged from the ranks of Proline FC Academy, one of the breeding grounds for young talent in the region.
After his early years in the academy, Ssali’s skillset caught the attention of top-tier clubs, and he eventually made the leap to senior football.
His move to NEC FC, a club with strong ties to Lugogo, represents both a return to familiar territory and a fresh opportunity for growth.
A Stint at Express FC
Ssali’s journey to NEC FC follows a brief, yet eventful, spell at Express FC, where he spent one and a half seasons. Joining the Red Eagles on 12th August 2023, Ssali had high hopes for his time at the club.
However, despite his undeniable talent, playing time proved to be elusive for the young forward, especially during the first half of the 2024/25 season.
Ssali found himself on the fringes of the first-team squad, often not making it into the starting XI, which led to frustration over his limited opportunities.
Not one to give up easily, Ssali used this period to further develop his game, even seeking international exposure through trials in Spain.
His father, renowned musician Moses Ssali (Bebe Cool), played a key role in making these trials possible.
With a desire to continue growing as a player, Ssali made the decision to return to Uganda and finish the season in his home country, finding a new challenge with NEC FC.
A New Challenge at NEC FC
Now at NEC FC, Ssali is set to add depth to the team’s attacking options, which already include experienced wingers Paul Mucureezi and James Jarieko.
As the Soldier Boyz aim to make a strong push in the second half of the season, Ssali’s pace, skill, and attacking flair will be crucial assets.
The club, currently sitting in second place on the league table with 33 points, has strong ambitions for the remainder of the campaign, and Ssali’s fresh energy is expected to complement the squad’s attacking setup.
NEC FC’s upcoming fixtures, including the highly anticipated opening match of the second round against KCCA FC on 13th February 2025, will be a true test of their title aspirations.
Ssali’s role in these fixtures could prove to be pivotal as the Soldier Boyz look to continue their pursuit of the top spot.
Looking Ahead
For Alpha Thierry Ssali, this move to NEC FC is more than just a transfer; it’s a chance to prove himself in a competitive environment, with the added pressure of helping a team with championship aspirations.
The experience at Express FC, despite the challenges he faced, has likely provided valuable lessons in resilience and professionalism.
Now, back in Lugogo, Ssali will look to make an impact at NEC FC, contributing to the club’s ambition while furthering his own development as one of Uganda’s most exciting young talents.
As NEC FC sets its sights on the second half of the season, all eyes will be on Ssali and his potential to light up the field in Lugogo once more.
