Alberto Antuna: Former Gazelles head coach joins Senegal


Former Uganda women’s national basketball team coach Alberto Antuna has been announced as the new Head Coach of the most decorated women’s national team in Africa, the Indomitable Lionesses of Senegal.

The Spanish tactician and Gazelles put the ABK Arena in Rwanda and the entire continent on a standstill when they pulled off the biggest upset of the FIBA 2023 Women’s AfroBasket defeating Senegal 11time champions Senegal 85-83 in a group C encounter.

Alberto joined the Uganda National ladies team ‘Gazelles’ in January of 2023 and saw the team advance from 89 to 57th position in the world over a span of 8months.

Still with the Gazelles, he finished 7th at the 2023 at the FIBA AfroBasket which came after finishing 2nd at the zone V qualifiers hosted in Kampala before resigning on the 16th of October, 2023.
