African Youth Chess Championships: Sana bags silver for Uganda

15 year old Sana Omprakash Kayyar scooped silver in the U-16 category at the African Youth Chess Championships on Friday.

Sana who finished with 7 points came out second in the tournament that was held at the Baron Hotel in Cairo- Egypt after falling short of Natalie Katlo Banda of Botswana by 1.5 points .

The tournament has had nine rounds played and Omprakash won seven despite losing to fellow Tamer Jana in the second round.

She beat Jamie Nichole Beukes of South African side Namibia in the last round to finish second and bag silver.

Away from Sana, in a team of 23 players Edwin Pido in his U16 boys category missed out on a medal by half a point just like Aine Atubet in the U10 girls category. 

U-18 starlet, Hannah Zion Mawejje who is expecting to represent Uganda at the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in Eindhoven, Netherlands in August was part of the team that participated.
