Africa Zone V Championship: Gazelles to tip off with defending champion


Tournament: Africa Zone V Championship
Teams: Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya and Egypt.
Time : First game – 5pm.
         Second game – 7:30pm.
Venue: Lugogo Indoor Arena

Amidst all hope that Zone V will be added another slot to make it three, all the teams are in the country, geared up and to play the championship.

Ahead of the games on Tuesday, a technical committee was chosen and involved national team and FIBA officials at Onomo hotel.

In this meeting, there were also service providers, Media at some point and different matters were discussed but mainly the focus was on the draws which went as follows;

Tuesday, 14th February 2023.(Day One)

South Sudan Vs Egypt – 5pm
Uganda Vs Kenya  Р7:30pm

Away from the fixture, it was mentioned that the Rwanda had already qualified as the hosts of the final tournament and won’t play on day one as per the rules apart from that their points won’t be counted.

Later on, Monday night the Uganda national ladies Basketball team (Gazelles) final 12 woman team was been named with the familiar names as listed below;

Evelyn Nakiyingi (JKL), Shakira Nanvubya (UCU), Flavia Oketcho (JKL), Ritah Imanishimwe (JKL), Ekone Brenda (JKL), Shilla Lamunu (Magic Stormers), Leticia Awor (KCCA Leopards), Akello Hope (JKL), Bridget Aber (UCU), Sarah Ageno (JT Lady Jaguars), Jannon Otto (Luxembourg), Maria Najjuma (United States).

Uganda’s opponents on the day( Kenya) are the defending champions of the tournament.
