BAL 2023: City Oilers learn Conference opponents


Eight-time FUBA National Basketball League Champions City Oilers have learnt their conference stages opponents at the forthcoming Basketball Africa League in

The Oilers have been placed in Nile Conference alongside Al Ahly ( Egypt), Cape Town Tigers ( South Africa), Beira- CFV ( Mozambique), Petro De Luada ( Angola) and SLAU ( Guinea).

The other conference named Sahara has Abidjan BC ( Cote D’Ivoire) Kwara Falcons ( Nigeria), Stade Malien ( Mali), AS Douanes ( Senegal), REG ( Rwanda) and US Monastir ( Tunisia)

The Sahara Conference’s group phase will take place at the Dakar Arena from March 11-21, While the Nile Conference’s group phase will take place at Hassan Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex in Cairo from April 26 – May 6.

The top four teams from each conference will qualify for the BAL Playoffs and Finals, which will feature a single-elimination tournament at BK Arena in Kigali from May 21-27.

City Oilers secured a slot at this year’s BAL after beating Urunani in the Third-Place playoff game in the Road to BAL Elite 16 Division East Group F at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg last year.

The Basketball Africa League (BAL), a partnership between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA), is a new professional league featuring 12 club teams from across Africa.

Monastir are the defending Champions of this league after they defeated Petro de Luanda to win the 2022 BAL Finals in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,000 at BK Arena.
