Absa Bank Uganda injects Shs200m into 2022 Uganda Golf Open

Absa Bank has today announced it’s sponsorship towards the 2022 Uganda Open Golf Championship which will be to the tune of UGX 200,000,0000.

The Uganda Open is an annual event hosted by the Uganda Golf Club and it’s consists of five tournaments which include the Junior Open, Ladies Open, Senior Open, Amateur Open and Professional Open.

This year’s Championship will take place at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa from 1st -29th October 2022.

As always, it’s expected to attract golfers and clubs from across Africa and globe at large.

Speaking at the launch of the prestigious tournament, Absa Bank Uganda’s Head of Operations and IT, Herbert Olowo noted that the Uganda Open is one of the most prestigious tournaments in Uganda and Absa Bank will continue to support and improve the game of golf in Uganda.

“The Open is one of the most prestigious and anticipated tournaments on Uganda’s golf calendar, and as a bank, we are proudly associated.” Olowo said before adding;

” We remain committed to the growth and development of the game in Uganda, which we continue to demonstrate by bolstering the capacities of the local clubs to host impactful tournaments like this and support the talented players that continue to dedicate time and effort to improve their game.”

“We look forward to the Open because it is also a great opportunity to interact with our customers while building the associations that help us better understand how to serve you and bring your possibilities to life.”

In his remarks, the President of Uganda Golf Union Moses Matsiko appreciated Absa Bank Uganda for always coming on board over the years.

“The Uganda Golf Open 2022 is here to offer an incredible experience to the golfers and those intending to join this good game soon, and we appreciate partners like Absa Bank Uganda who have come on board to ensure that the tournament is a success.” He said.

Of the 200 million, UGX. 93 million of the package will be towards the Absa Pro-Am tournament which will be held on 25th October while UGX 65 million will go towards sponsoring 10 qualifying players in the 2023 Magical Kenya Open- with priority given to qualifying professionals.

Collin Subika emerged the best amateur at the 2021 Absa Pro-Am event in Entebbe last year while Local professional Vincent Byamukama was the biggest winner of the Absa Bank Uganda sponsored event.

Apart from the Uganda Open,Absa has sponsored various other tournaments over the years which includes the Captain’s Bell Tournaments.
