Gaddafi Football Club has appointed seasoned coach Abdallah Mubiru as its new head coach ahead of their debut campaign in the Uganda Premier League (UPL). The tactician signed a two-year deal, marking a statement of intent by the Entebbe-based club as it gears up for top-flight competition.
Mubiru, widely respected for his attractive, tactical style of play, has always had teams known for intelligent passing, disciplined structure, and a calm, methodical approach, traits that Gaddafi FC hopes will secure them a strong footing in the Uganda Premier League.
We are honored to resume our UPL chapter under the guidance of Abdallah Mubiru, an accomplished and visionary football mind,” the club announced in a statement.
Mubiru brings a wealth of experience, having managed top-tier sides, including Proline FC, KCCA FC twice, Vipers SC, and a long and transformative stint at Police FC. He’s also had international exposure with Mbeya City in Tanzania and roles with the Uganda Cranes, both as assistant and caretaker coach.
His most recent job was at KCCA FC, where he briefly returned in late 2023 before being sent packing, just six months before the expiration of his contract.
Gaddafi chairman Opio Okurut officially unveiled Mubiru on July 15, praising his technical knowledge and professionalism. Mubiru replaces Robert “Kiyenje” Mukasa, who led the team to promotion from the FUFA Big League.
With the UPL season fast approaching, the club sees Mubiru as the ideal figure to lead them into uncharted territory with confidence and tactical discipline.
In his remarks, Mubiru emphasized that this is more than just a job;
“This is more than just a job it’s a project with a vision. Gaddafi FC is a club with history, character, and passionate supporters. I’m here to build a team that plays with purpose, discipline, and identity. With the right support, we can write a new, proud chapter in the club’s legacy.””
Abdallah is now left to concentrate on assembling a solid technical team, building a squad capable of mid-table stability.
Club President Mr. Opio Joseph Okurut emphasized the thoughtful, strategic planning behind Mubiru’s appointment:
We are committed to building a sustainable footballing model rooted in discipline, identity, and ambition. This appointment is part of a long-term vision. Coach Mubiru brings the experience, professionalism, and values that align perfectly with what we believe in as a club.”
Gaddafi FC’s return to the Premier League marks the return of top-tier football to Entebbe, a town that has lacked UPL representation since 2018, when Masavu FC was relegated.
Entebbe has had a number of football teams featured in Uganda’s top flight but had short stints, including Aurum Roses, Entebbe Young cum Entebbe FC, and Masavu, amongst the many.
With Mubiru in charge, the club is not only looking to survive but also to build a long-term identity rooted in attractive, intelligent football.
