NEC FC showcased immense character and resilience as they came from behind to defeat Kitara FC 2-1 in a pulsating Uganda Premier League encounter at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Coming into the game on the back of a dominant 4-0 win over KCCA FC, Kitara FC were brimming with confidence. Their intent was clear from the kickoff, and it took them just nine minutes to break the deadlock through Kabon Living, who gave the visitors an early lead with a well-taken goal.
However, Kitara’s celebrations were short-lived. Just 90 seconds later, NEC FC found an equalizer through Muzamir Mutyaba, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to restore parity in a thrilling start to the match.
The tempo remained high, with both sides pushing for a breakthrough. The match took a dramatic turn in the 52nd minute when NEC FC’s Enock Ssebagala was shown a second yellow card, leaving the home side to play the remainder of the game with ten men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, NEC FC refused to back down. They absorbed pressure and struck when it mattered most. With just three minutes of regular time remaining, team captain Kavuma Marvin rose to the occasion, netting the decisive goal that sent the home fans into a frenzy.
The result not only secured a vital three points for NEC FC but also saw them complete a league double over Kitara FC. More importantly, the win keeps their title chase firmly on track. NEC FC now sit second on the table with 51 points, just one behind league leaders Vipers, though having played one game more.
