Uganda Lady Cranes XVs Flagged Off for Rugby Africa Women’s Division One Championship in Ivory Coast

A squad of 28 Uganda Lady Cranes XVs players has been flagged off to Ivory Coast where the Uganda Lady Cranes XVs are set to take part in the Rugby Africa Women’s Division I Championship to be held in San Pedro from from 9th to 20th April and which serves as a qualification pathway to the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup scheduled for next month.

Uganda’s campaign kicks off on April 11 against Tunisia, followed by games against hosts Ivory Coast and Zimbabwe in a round-robin format where the top team earns promotion to the elite Rugby Africa Cup.

Head Coach Charles Onen echoed this optimism, emphasizing the importance of the tournament in strengthening Uganda’s 15s program.

“We’ve had a solid build-up with this group, and we are confident they will represent Uganda with pride.”-Head Coach Charles Onen spoke with confidence while addressing the media during the flag off in Lugogo today, five of the players are having their first senior national team call up from the U20 side, these include Bushira Namutebi, Peace Nemira, Mukyaala Proscovia, Phoebe Nakalembe and Phiona Nantongo.

One will however have plenty of experience to rely on in Captain Peace Lekuru who has been in fine form and a couple of other senior players.
