Pepsi University Football League
- ISBAT 0-5 Nkumba
Nkumba University put on a dominant display on Tuesday evening, dismantling ISBAT University 5-0 in an away fixture played at Kanyanya.
The Beach Boys wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring early and frequently to secure an emphatic win that sent them top of Group A in the Pepsi University Football League.
ISBAT started the game with a glimpse of attacking intent, as Joshua Ssentongo and Ukasha threatened down the right flank within the opening ten minutes.
However, Nkumba was quick to take control, and in the 14th minute, Kavuma Abbey broke the deadlock with a stunning long-range strike into the bottom right corner, giving the visitors the early advantage.
Barely two minutes later, Nkumba doubled their lead when Mukiibi Saad met a perfectly delivered cross from Lubega Ismael in the box, heading home to make it 2-0. ISBAT’s defense looked overwhelmed as the visitors continued to press high up the pitch.
At the 20-minute mark, Lubega Ismael turned from provider to scorer, netting straight from a corner kick to put Nkumba 3-0 up. The Beach Boys were cruising, and ISBAT had no response.
Nkumba continued to pile on the pressure. In the 28th minute, Ssewakambo set up Kavuma for what looked like his second goal of the game, but the midfielder scuffed his shot, letting the hosts off the hook. However, ISBAT’s relief was short-lived.
Four minutes later, Kagimu Marvin met another Kavuma Abbey delivery and slotted home from close range, capping off an incredible first-half performance. By halftime, Nkumba was firmly in control with a commanding 4-0 lead.
After the break, ISBAT attempted to mount a fightback. Bahiira Katende tested Nkumba’s goalkeeper, Wabomba, with a powerful shot from the left, forcing him to push the ball out for a corner.
Joshua Ssentongo then connected with the resulting set-piece, but his header flew over the bar, one of ISBAT’s few chances of the match.
Nkumba continued to dominate, and in the 72nd minute, Joshua Kamori put the final nail in ISBAT’s coffin with a powerful strike past Lubandi Eric into the bottom right corner, sealing a 5-0 victory.
Despite a late flurry of end-to-end action, with Wabomba making a crucial save and Kamori forcing Lubandi into two stops, the scoreline remained unchanged as Nkumba marched to a comfortable victory.
The win saw Nkumba University climb to the top of Group A with 10 points, having secured back-to-back wins since the league’s resumption.
Meanwhile, ISBAT remains at the bottom of the group with just one point to their name.
The Pepsi University Football League action continues on Wednesday, February 26, with Kampala University set to host Bugema University in a Group D clash at Nsambya.
