The highly anticipated 2025 FUFA Juniors League is set to kick off on Saturday, February 8th, ushering in a fresh season filled with promising young talent and significant changes aimed at enhancing the development of future football stars in Uganda.
Since its inception in 2015, the FUFA Juniors League has played a pivotal role in the growth of Ugandan football, serving as the foundational platform where the country’s future footballers begin their journey.
Over the years, it has acted as a conveyor belt, channeling young players to the Junior National Teams and, in some cases, the Senior National Team. This season promises to build on that legacy with transformative adjustments designed to give players the best possible start to their football careers.
Structure and Format
This year, 16 teams have been divided into two competitive groups: Treble and Hat-trick. Each group features eight teams, and the league will continue its round-based format, consisting of three rounds of play.
This ensures that all teams have the opportunity to showcase their talent and compete at a high level over the course of the season.

New Rules and Player Registration
The league will see clubs register a maximum of 25 players, with strict age restrictions to ensure that only the best young talent is showcased.
The rules are designed to provide an optimal mix of development and competitive experience.
- Five players born in 2007, with at least one goalkeeper.
- Fifteen players born between 2008–2009, with at least one goalkeeper.
- Five players born in 2010, with at least one goalkeeper.
This structure ensures that a good mix of younger players and those with more experience in the system are part of each team, creating a competitive environment while nurturing the next generation of stars.
What to Expect
As the 2025 season begins, excitement is already building among coaches, players, and fans alike.
The Treble and Hat-trick groups feature a blend of established clubs and emerging forces, all vying for supremacy and the chance to develop their players for the future.
With clubs now mandating participation in the Juniors League, the league has gained more prominence than ever.
The stakes are high, and the focus is squarely on creating opportunities for young players to shine. This season is expected to be a crucial step forward in achieving Uganda’s football development goals, building a strong foundation for the country’s national teams.
