Record winners, KCCA FC and Express FC will face off again this Friday evening for their Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter-final second leg duel at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
These two sides have won the most trophies of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, with 10 apiece, just one ahead of SC Villa.
The two sides head into this contest after they drew goalless in the first leg played at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium, Wakulukuku last week. This will be the third meeting between the two sides this season with the previous two ending in stalemates.
The last time these sides met in the Uganda Cup two-legged tie was in the 2017 semi-finals during which KCCA emerged victors with a 3-2 aggregate win over Express to progress to the finals where they faced Paidha Black Angels at the Greenlight Stadium, Arua.
For either side to progress to the next round, they need to score at least a goal and restrict their opponents from outscoring them. A scoring draw will take Express to the next round while a goalless scoreline will take the game into extra time.
The Red Eagles will be without two of their leading forwards this season as Eric Kambale and Geoffrey Lwesibawa are ruled out of this game. Kambale is in Self-isolation due to Coronavirus while Lwesibawa and Frank Kalanda are out injured. While also another forward, George Ssenkaaba is a long term absentee.
For KCCA, they will be boosted by the return of Sadat Anaku and Sam Ssenyonjo who missed the first leg due to injury and School commitments respectively.
What the coaches said in their pre-match Conferences
“We were the better team in the first leg despite not being able to score but we shall build on that so as to get a victory,” said KCCA head coach Morley Byekwaso before adding that; ” We must be lethal in Infront of goal and very tight at the back.”
“We’ve prepared well ahead of the return leg, We have a few injuries like Frank Kalanda and Godfrey Lwesibawa, Erick Kambale is suspended but the rest are ok. The available players have been fine-tuned to win the game, this is a knockout and there are no two ways about it so we shall win,” Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa said.
