Uganda senior Men’s Football National team, the Cranes, edged closer to qualification after 2-1 win over South Sudan at their AFCON 2025 Group K Qualifier game in Juba on Tuesday 15th October evening.
This is Uganda’s second win over the neighbors a few days after winning first leg at Mandela National Stadium in Bweyogerere.
A Denis Omedi and an Alfred Leku’s own goal helped the boys from Kampala secure their third group win despite Yohanna Juma giving the hosts some hope with equalizer.
Omendi’s goal came 16 minutes into the game after a cheeky through ball by Allan Okello before Yohanna Juma equalized five minutes later with a stunner to end first half 1-1.
In the second stanza, substitute Travis Mutyaba’s free kick was headed with fellow substitute Jude Ssemugabi to deflect off Alfred Leku into his own net to restore Uganda’s lead.
The victory saw Uganda go top of Group K with 10 points, two more than second placed South Africa who managed only a draw away in Congo Brazzaville.
