2024 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally launched

The 2024 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally was launched at Kibira Country Club on Friday morning.

The rally is scheduled for 10th –12th May, 2024 and will be held in Jinja district, in the Eastern region of Uganda.

The Pearl of Africa Rally held its inaugural event in 1997. The title of the event, “Pearl of Africa,” alludes to a well-known remark that Winston Churchill made about Uganda when he was visiting the country in the early 20th century.

To date, Uganda and the sporting event continued to be a highlight in the African motorsport calendar.

The Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda rally’s new status as the first round of the ARC now adds even more excitement and establishes the course for the championship’s advancement throughout the year.

This year’s round is also the third event on the Uganda rally calendar.

Over thirty entries that include; current national championship leader Jonas Kansiime, and other former National Champions Jas Mangat, Ronald Sebuguzi, Ponsiano Lwakataka have been registered, drawing more of the rally’s rich history and competitive spirit.

Defending African rally champion Karan Patel (Kenya) and Junior African rally champion Hamza Anwar (Kenya); the only two foreign drivers will add to the excitement to be displayed by all the crews.

This year’s stages have been designed to offer a fun and touristic experience for our sponsors and fans. The fans will be able to view the rally cars within the gazetted spectator zones at least five times on day one. Day two will offer as much excitement.

The Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally will start with a free practice and qualifying stage in Wairaka on day one – 10th May, 2024.

Day two will feature seven stages and then rally will climax with three stages in day three. A rally will run a total competitive distance of 209.45 kilometers.

Talking to the event manager Jimmy Akena who assumed the role from Dipu Ruparelia, he came out to assure the stalk-holders of a wonderful event;

“I am glad to have tirelessly worked with Dipu and his team to see the event take place.”

“What I can assure the stakeholders is that we’ll have a wonderful event. The safety of crews and fans remains our major priority.” he concluded
