2024 Paris Olympics: Gloria Muzito finishes 8th in Swimming

Despite an eighth placed finish in heat four which meant a no place in the semi finals for Uganda swimmer Gloria Muzito who was competing in the women’s 100m freestyle at the Aquatics Centre in Paris.

Gloria set a new national record with an impressive 55.95 seconds, and also bettered her personal best.

In heat 3, Mollie O’Callaghan won with a timing of 53:27 whilst Swedish national Sarah Sjostrom took heat 2 with 52:99, the fastest time among all the heats.

The 22 year old Ugandan-US based swimmer is participating in her first Olympics but has already brought Uganda glory with a medal at the recently concluded All African Games in Accra Ghana.

Muzito’s performance on the day was not good enough to see her progress to the semi-finals; but, she remains optimistic of further in her upcoming races.

Jesse Ssengonzi will be the other swimmer in 100m Butterfly race that will take place on 2nd August.

Gloria follows Kathleen Noble, the rower who was Uganda’s first participant at this year’s summer olympics on Saturday with both athletes failing to make it onto the next stage.
